The M25 motorway is one of the busiest roads in Europe so it is not uncommon for an accident, broken down vehicle or other incident to cause long delays to drivers around the M25, especially at peak periods, and on the busiest sections of the motorway.
Our main source of news and updates is from Traffic England which is the government department responsible for maintaining the roads and motorways in England, so our main source is an official, reliable one.

35,831 light goods vehicles a day, plus the lorries. When there is a crash on the M25 it is rarely just cars — and that is why lanes stay shut longer here than elsewhere.

at 11am beside junction 14. M25 freight peaks in the middle of the morning, not in the rush hour most people picture — the midday M25 is not the quiet motorway it looks.
So the honest picture is two things at once. An M25 crash causes delays out of all proportion to how often one happens, because this motorway runs near capacity all day. And yet motorways as a whole remain the safest roads in Britain per mile travelled — 21% of the traffic, 6% of road deaths in 2025. ⚠ We report the latest M25 accident and crash news exactly as National Highways issue it and no more: the feed does not see everything, so when we say there is nothing to report, that is what we mean — not that the M25 is clear.
