The M25 in numbers — the busiest road in Britain
Not a figure of speech. When the Department for Transport counted every stretch of road in Great Britain in 2025, the three busiest were all on the M25 motorway.

The M25 between junction 14 and the Heathrow boundary carries more traffic than any other stretch of road in Great Britain. Second and third busiest are also the M25, at J13–14 and J15–16.

M25 vehicles a day
on that busiest stretch — roughly 147 every minute, around the clock, every day of the year. Fourth busiest in Britain is the M60, and we cover that motorway too at M60Traffic.co.uk.

past junction 30 on the run to the Dartford Crossing. On that stretch more than one vehicle in five is an HGV — the heaviest freight traffic anywhere on the M25 motorway.

35,831 light goods vehicles a day share the busiest stretch with you. Add the lorries and almost a quarter of the M25 is somebody at work.
That is why an M25 accident or crash does not stay in one place. A lane shut at junction 15 at seven in the morning is a queue at junction 12 by half past — and the traffic looking for a way round it is on the A roads either side within the hour. It is also why we update the latest M25 traffic news on this website every few minutes rather than a few times a day.
