So, if you are looking for information about roadworks you have come to the right place.
Roadworks are one of the main causes of congestion, delays and holdups. In recent years there have been extensive road widening programs on the busiest sections of the motorway which has lead to long delays.
As the M25 motorway is one of the busiest roads in Europe, roadworks can cause long delays to drivers especially at peak periods, and on the busiest sections of the motorway.
Our main source of news and updates about roadworks is from Traffic England which is the government department responsible for maintaining the roads and motorways in England, so our main source is an official, reliable one.

Roadworks Info
The main source of our roadworks information is Traffic England, formally the Highways Agency, which is the government department specifically tasked with maintaining England's roads. This is therefore usually one of the most reliable sources of roadworks updates.
Each roadworks report has:
- Report title
- Date Released or updated
- Category or Source
- Location
- Schedule
- Summary
The roadworks update title is a brief summary of main facts.
The remainder of the report is the detail of when the report was released or updated and details of what the roadworks are, where they are, and how long they are expected to last.
How any accidents on the M25 are affecting speed of traffic flow
M25 Traffic now features real time traffic flow information from Google maps which will show how current accidents are slowing traffic speed.
Using the traffic flow map in conjunction with our traffic news helps to gauge the affect any accidents on the M25 are slowing down traffic.
We see reports of accidents on the M25 most days. Our aim is to feature all the current accident reports from Traffic England as soon as they are reported.
You should never drive and text at the same time. This creates a massive risk of a traffic accident to you and others around you.
Be alert, be aware, take care. Be safe.
You should never drive and use your phone at the same time. Have a passenger check our latest news for you.
On any single day you can find information about both current and planned roadworks so that you are aware of possible delays and holdups on your journey.
As a major motorway, and a very busy one, we often feature dozens of up to date reports and updates and you can find all of them in our central search news page.
This page highlights up to ten of the most recent and latest reports.
Our search page enables you to search by category and narrow your search down to specific junctions and specific words such as "clockwise" or "anti-clockwise" which can be very useful.
Why M25 roadworks and lane closures happen at night
It is a fair question — why is so much M25 motorway work done in the small hours, and why do the same roadworks take so many nights? The Department for Transport’s own hourly traffic counts answer it, and it is worth knowing before judging today’s M25 roadworks too harshly.
12,808
M25 traffic, quietest hour
counted on a normal weekday between 7am and 6pm — and it falls at midday. There is no daytime window quiet enough to close an M25 lane in.
14,457
in the busiest hour
at 7am. Only 12.9% separates that from the quietest hour, so daytime M25 roadworks cause delays at any hour you choose to start them.
241
vehicles a minute
through the busiest hour on the M25 motorway, both directions. Closing one lane of four removes capacity the traffic simply cannot make up — which is how a short closure becomes long delays.
28,211
lorries a day
at the eastern end of the M25. Overnight roadworks keep that freight moving through the day, which is when most of it has to be somewhere.
So the M25 roadworks you see coned off at two in the morning with nobody in them are usually the safest and least disruptive way to do the job. The alternative is not fewer roadworks — it is the same roadworks at four in the afternoon. Either way, the latest M25 roadworks and lane closure updates for today are on this page, refreshed through the day — alongside the rest of the M25 motorway traffic news.
Hourly figures are from the Department for Transport’s own count point beside junction 14, counted on 23 April 2025 and published on 20 May 2026.
